I love learning about design web sites. I plan to become a website tycoon and put google out of business (ha ha ha). But really, I have high hopes for myself and I know that I can acomplish whatever I put my mind to.

This page is an example of using tables to organize the structure of a complicated document. The leftmost column of this page contains links. The rightmost column contains other information and this middle column (the one you are reading now) contains the main information for the webpage. Above these three columns is the header for the whole page and below is the footer. The overall layout that I just described was created using a table. After creating the table to layout the information, each of the sections was filled in with the appropriate HTML for creating the content for that section of the page.

There are other ways to layout a page using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The CSS approach is preferred for design of newer websites. However, it is still important to undrestand how to do layout using tables. Sometimes a combination of table and CSS layout is appropriate. Table layout can be used for some "simpler" layouts in the overall page and CSS can be used for the more complicated stuff.

So far the XHTML that I know is pretty basic. I can get a basic page up and running but I still haven't learned how to do the really interesting stuff. CSS, Javascript and PHP are three technologies that I really want to learn about some more. I understand that these technologies can go a long way towards making a website come alive.
